How ShowLab Ltd collects, uses and protects your personal data when you use our website and services.
Last updated: 27 May 2026
Who we are
This website is operated by ShowLab Ltd ("ShowLab", "we", "us" or "our"), a company registered in England and Wales under company number 16567140, with its registered office at 71-75 Shelton Street, Covent Garden, London, WC2H 9JQ.
ShowLab is the data controller responsible for any personal data we collect through this website. If you have any questions about this policy or how your personal data is handled, please contact us at privacy@showlab.co.uk .
What this policy covers
This policy explains what personal data we collect when you visit showlab.co.uk, submit our contact form, or sign up to our newsletter. It also explains how we use that data, who we share it with, how long we keep it, and what rights you have under the UK General Data Protection Regulation (UK GDPR) and the Data Protection Act 2018.
This policy does not cover other websites that we link to. Please check their own privacy policies before sharing personal data with them.
The information we collect
We collect the following personal data:
- Contact form submissions. When you contact us through the form on our Contact page, we collect your name, email address, the type of enquiry, and the message you send us.
- Newsletter sign-ups. When you subscribe to our newsletter, we collect your email address.
- Technical data. When you visit the website, our hosting infrastructure automatically logs technical information such as your IP address, browser type and version, the pages you visit, and the time of your visit.
- Cookies. We set a single strictly-necessary session cookie to keep the website working. See the "Cookies" section below for details.
We do not knowingly collect any special category data (such as data about your health, ethnicity, or beliefs) through this website.
How we use your information and our lawful bases
Under UK GDPR, we need a lawful basis for processing your personal data. The bases we rely on are:
- Responding to your enquiries. We use the information you provide through the contact form to reply to you and to keep a record of our correspondence. Our lawful basis is our legitimate interests (Article 6(1)(f) UK GDPR) in communicating with people who have contacted us.
- Sending you our newsletter. If you subscribe, we use your email address to send you marketing emails about ShowLab. Our lawful basis is your consent (Article 6(1)(a) UK GDPR), which you can withdraw at any time using the unsubscribe link in any email we send you, or by emailing privacy@showlab.co.uk .
- Operating and securing the website. We use technical data and our session cookie to keep the website running, protect against fraud and abuse (including cross-site request forgery), and diagnose problems. Our lawful basis is our legitimate interests (Article 6(1)(f) UK GDPR) in providing a secure and reliable service.
- Meeting our legal obligations. Where the law requires us to process personal data (for example, to respond to a lawful request from a regulator), our lawful basis is legal obligation (Article 6(1)(c) UK GDPR).
Who we share your information with
We do not sell your personal data, and we do not share it with anyone for their own marketing purposes. We use a small number of trusted third-party service providers ("processors") who help us run the website, on terms that require them to protect your data and only use it on our instructions:
- UK and EU hosting providers that host the website, store our data, and keep server logs.
- A third-party email marketing provider used to deliver our newsletter and manage subscriptions. We will update this policy with the provider's name and a link to their privacy notice when our newsletter goes live.
-
Google LLC. When your browser loads any page on this website it
also requests our typefaces from Google's font servers
(
fonts.googleapis.comandfonts.gstatic.com). This means Google receives your IP address and basic request information. We do not use Google Fonts for tracking or analytics.
We may also disclose your personal data where we are required to do so by law, by a court, or by a competent regulator (such as the Information Commissioner's Office or HM Revenue & Customs), or where disclosure is necessary to protect our rights, property, or safety, or those of others.
International transfers
Some of the service providers listed above (notably Google, and potentially our future email marketing provider) are based outside the United Kingdom. Where your personal data is transferred outside the UK, we rely on one of the safeguards permitted by UK GDPR, namely:
- UK adequacy regulations made by the Secretary of State; or
- the UK International Data Transfer Agreement; or
- Standard Contractual Clauses approved by the European Commission together with the UK Addendum, plus a transfer risk assessment where required.
You can ask us for more information about the safeguards in place for any particular transfer by emailing privacy@showlab.co.uk .
How long we keep your information
We keep personal data only for as long as we need it:
- Contact form enquiries are kept for as long as the conversation is active and for up to two years afterwards, so we can refer back to past exchanges. You can ask us to delete your enquiry sooner by emailing us.
- Newsletter subscriber records are kept until you unsubscribe. After you unsubscribe we keep a minimal record of your email address on a suppression list so that we do not accidentally email you again.
- Server logs are rotated and deleted by our hosting provider on a rolling basis, typically within 90 days.
We may keep personal data for longer where we are required to do so by law (for example, financial records) or where we need to defend a legal claim.
Your rights under UK GDPR
You have the following rights in relation to the personal data we hold about you:
- The right to be informed - through policies like this one.
- The right of access (Article 15) - to ask for a copy of the personal data we hold about you.
- The right to rectification (Article 16) - to have inaccurate or incomplete data corrected.
- The right to erasure (Article 17) - sometimes called the "right to be forgotten".
- The right to restrict processing (Article 18).
- The right to data portability (Article 20) - to receive your data in a structured, machine-readable format.
- The right to object (Article 21) - including to processing based on our legitimate interests.
- The right to withdraw consent (Article 7(3)) - for example, by unsubscribing from our newsletter.
- Rights in relation to automated decision-making (Article 22). We do not use your personal data to make solely automated decisions that produce legal or similarly significant effects on you.
To exercise any of these rights, please email privacy@showlab.co.uk . We will respond within one calendar month of receiving your request. Where a request is particularly complex, we may extend this by up to two further months, but we will let you know if so.
You also have the right to lodge a complaint with the Information Commissioner's Office, the UK's data protection regulator, at ico.org.uk or by calling 0303 123 1113. We would, however, appreciate the chance to deal with any concerns first, so please do contact us before approaching the ICO.
Cookies
A cookie is a small text file that a website places on your device. We currently use only one cookie:
- A strictly-necessary session cookie set by our application framework. It keeps your session active while you fill in our forms and protects against cross-site request forgery attacks. It expires when you close your browser or after a short period of inactivity.
Because this cookie is strictly necessary for the website to work, we do not need to ask for your consent under regulation 6(4) of the Privacy and Electronic Communications (EC Directive) Regulations 2003 (PECR). We do not set any analytics, advertising, or other tracking cookies. If we introduce any cookies in the future that do require consent, we will add a consent banner before doing so.
You can block or delete cookies through your browser settings, but doing so may stop parts of the website from working.
Keeping your information secure
We take the security of your personal data seriously and use appropriate technical and organisational measures to protect it. These include encrypting traffic between you and our website using HTTPS, limiting who has access to systems that store personal data, and choosing reputable service providers who maintain their own recognised security standards.
No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, however, and we cannot guarantee the security of data transmitted to or stored by us.
Children
Our website is not directed at children under the age of 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal data from children. If you believe that we may have collected personal data from a child, please contact us at privacy@showlab.co.uk and we will delete it.
Changes to this policy
We may update this privacy policy from time to time to reflect changes in our practices or for legal or regulatory reasons. The "last updated" date at the top of this page shows when the most recent change was made.
Where a change materially affects how we use personal data we already hold about you, we will let you know by email if we have an address for you.
